Dr. Sheffer's research focuses on the examination of bio-behavioral mechanisms that support and sustain addictive behaviors. Her work focuses on improving the efficacy and uptake of empirically-supported treatments for tobacco use, particularly among groups that experience tobacco-related health disparities; investigating neurocognitive processes associated with tobacco dependence and other risky and addictive health behaviors; and investigating effective methods to train health care providers in the treatment of tobacco dependence.
Medicine. A statistician by training, her research focuses on racial and ethnic health
disparities, health care for smoking cessation, and statistical methodology with
applications to behavioral medicine and social sciences. She has taught undergraduate-
and graduate-level statistics and biostatistics courses, and mentored more than 50
students and over 10 postdoctoral associates and other scientists. She served as a grant
reviewer on 16 study sections for the DoD, NSF, and NIH. In addition, she is a Standing
Member of the Study Section on Health Care Research Training for the Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality, U.S. DHHS. She is also an active member of the
American Statistical Association and the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco.
She lives in Durham, NC, and enjoys yoga, cooking, the NC mountains, and spending time with her husband and their 3 sons.
Throughout the course of his extensive 20+ year Nursing career, Dr. Iyaad has worked domestically and internationally for the following organizations: United States Public Health Service within the Immigration and US Customs Enforcement Health Corp and Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, Cleveland Clinic (Ohio, Florida, and Abu Dhabi), and CVS Minute Clinics, and, currently, The Breathing Association.

Cindy Morris, PsyD, NCNTT

Behavioral Health & Wellness Program at the University of Colorado School of
Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She has developed and implemented many
training programs for administrators, healthcare professionals, and peer specialists focused on health behavior change for whole health, work & well-being, and tobacco/nicotine treatment.
She is the training director for the Rocky Mountain Tobacco Treatment Specialist
(RMTTS) Program, a CTTTP-accredited training program. Dr. Morris also works with
organizations to create systems that support the overall health of the organization, its
employees, and the people they serve. She is a certified trainer and member of the
Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international organization
committed to promoting high-quality Motivational Interviewing practice and training. Dr.
Morris has been awarded the National Certification in Nicotine and Tobacco Treatment
(NCNTT) by NAADAC, the Association for Addictions Professionals.

MUSC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training program. She lives in Charleston, SC with
her cat Ollie and Dog Roxy. She has a 23-year-old daughter in college and loves cooking,
thrift store shopping, and is obsessed with Italy and hopes to live there someday.
Michael D. Celestin, Jr., PhD, is an Assistant Professor and Program Director at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health New Orleans School of Public Health, specializing in tobacco control, health policy, and behavioral and community health interventions. He is also Assistant Director of the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center Office for Workforce Excellence. Dr. Celestin holds degrees in Interpersonal/Public Communication (B.A.), Health Promotion (M.A.), Public Policy (Ph.D.), and Clinical Research (M.S.). He has over 20 years of experience at LSU leading statewide cancer prevention/tobacco control activities, integrating behavioral health strategies with clinical practice. As Program Director of the Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative (TCI), he integrates evidence-based interventions to reduce smoking-related health disparities in health systems and community health centers. His research focuses on health systems change, implementation science, and behavioral change interventions. Dr. Celestin has secured close to $10 million in research funding from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Louisiana Cancer Research Center, to advance smoking cessation through novel and pragmatic approaches. He has over 30 peer-reviewed publications and has presented at numerous local, state, and national scientific conferences. A dedicated educator and mentor, he has guided students from high school to graduate school in population health research. His commitment to teaching earned him the Allen Copping Excellence in Teaching Award (2023). Beyond academia, Dr. Celestin serves on state and national health and tobacco control committees, advocating for equitable tobacco control policies and treatment, and is an Ambassador for the American Cancer Society's Men Wear Pink of New Orleans Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. With a mission to bridge research and practice, Dr. Celestin continues to lead efforts in cancer prevention, tobacco control, and health equity, improving public health outcomes for all populations.
